HARRISBURG (September 12, 2024) A new homeownership project in the Borough of New Cumberland, along the 200 block of Eutaw Avenue, has been awarded $225,000.00 in funding under the state’s Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP), opening the door to homeownership for more low- to moderate-income individuals and families.
The award was announced by the state Department of Community and Economic Development this week.
The initiative also received $400,000 in PHARE funding in June through the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency, along with a pending $150,000 Cumberland County HOME grant, rendering home prices more attainable for home-seekers struggling to make ends meet.
Gary Lenker, executive director of Tri-County Housing, the owner/developer of the project, explained that this venture arose after the nonprofit was working on a blighted property at 215 Eutaw Avenue and realized that they could maximize housing options by strategically subdividing the property and building a new structure on the resulting lot.
Tri-County will construct a new duplex, expanding affordable housing options locally for lower and moderate-income families. Both units will have two stories, plus a full basement, three spacious bedrooms, one and one-half baths, and modern appliances and amenities, spanning 1,614 square feet of finished living space. The expected selling price is $126,900.
Participating banks for the Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) are Wells Fargo, M&T, Mid Penn, First National and First Commonwealth.
