Nonprofit to build a number of affordable homes in Steelton

A groundbreaking ceremony was recently held for a housing project that has been in the works for 15 years and will produce 12 new affordable homes in Steelton.

Twelve three-bedroom townhouse units will be built on Frank S. Brown Boulevard, which was formerly known as Adams Street. The project is being developed by the Tri-County Housing Development Corporation, and the new townhomes will be affordable, energy-efficient, and sold to those who meet income guidelines.

Plans are to sell the new homes at a price between $90,000 and $100,000. A single person with an income up to a little more than $45,000 is eligible to purchase a home and a family of four with an income up to $64,900 is eligible to purchase a home. The Tri-County Housing Development Corporation will help new homebuyers with their mortgage application.

The first phase of the project will include six townhouse units to be completed in the spring. The borough is donating the property for the entire project and has invested $1 million in sitework and infrastructure.
