HARRISBURG (May 8, 2025) A room full of hopeful future homeowners embarked on a day of important work recently, as they completed an intensive eight-hour class in homebuying strategies from the nonprofit Tri-County Housing. It was a scene that has been repeated time and time again as the Pyramid Award-winning nonprofit marks its three-year anniversary of First-Time Homebuyers Workshops.
This HUD-certified First-Time Homebuyer Counseling Program was made possible in part by Mid Penn Bank, which celebrated a four-year milestone this year after contributing $25,000 to the effort, for a total of $95,000.
In addition to Mid Penn Bank, Gary Lenker, Tri-County Housing’s executive director, thanked the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency and the Dauphin County Commissioners for supporting homebuyers and residents by empowering Tri-County Housing to develop, produce, promote and maintain affordable housing for low- to moderate-income individuals and families.
“In this turbulent economy and exceedingly tight housing market, buying a home can be more challenging than ever,” Lenker said, “but especially if you are just starting out, on a fixed income, or working in a lower-paying job. Tri-County has been here for 35 years with a mission to help residents fulfill their dream of owning a safe, attractive and affordable home in Dauphin, Cumberland and Perry counties. Our work has built stability and stronger communities.”
As an official Community Development Housing Organization (CDHO), Tri-County Housing has provided homebuyer education assistance for its 36th month, supporting nearly 700 households. These sessions include one-on-one counseling to assess each client’s financial situation and guide them toward a sustainable housing solution. For more information, visit www.tricohousing.com.
