Harrisburg Affordable Housing Project Earns Neighborhood Assistance Program Award

Five Townhomes to Be Built in the 2100 block of city’s North 4th Street

HARRISBURG (January 8, 2024) A new affordable housing project in the city of Harrisburg –located along the 2100 block of North 4th Street –has been awarded funding under the state’s Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP), opening the door to homeownership for more low- to moderate-income individuals and families.

Gary Lenker, executive director of Tri-County Housing, which is the owner/developer of the project, said the nonprofit was granted $125,000 for the North 4th Street project from the NAP program.

Five affordable townhomes will be built on vacant lots in the 2100 block of North 4th Street.  The three-bedroom, one-and-a-half bath townhomes will be available for purchase for eligible low- to moderate-income homeowners, perhaps as early as next year.

The project replicates the successful Hummel Street Project in the city, which is nearing completion, and is the culmination of a strategic partnership with the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Harrisburg (HRA).

The NAP program is administered by the PA Department of Community and Economic Development.

“Working with the encouragement of Mayor Wanda Williams, who has made affordable housing a priority in the city, we are dedicated to addressing the need for high-quality, affordable housing across the region, and we are grateful for the support of the state and our financial partners, including Wells Fargo, Mid Penn, First National, and M&T Banks,” Lenker said.

The revitalization project also received $400,000 in PHARE funds from the PA Housing Finance Agency last June and a state Keystone Communities Program Grant for $366,000 in December.

Lenker noted the significance of the North 4th Street revitalization, as it is the first city project outside Allison Hill in the 33-year-life of Tri-County Housing (formerly Tri-County Housing Development Corporation.) Construction is anticipated to begin in the summer and be completed in early 2025                                     ##

  1. Big problem with FNB Bank being apart of this because of their discriminatory practices that are actually filed at fair housing on 6th Street with a couple cases bought upon FNB Bank first national Bank.. So what is there roll besides the predatorial lending that they are being accused of with case files that are pending at fair housing on 6th Street in Harrisburg, PA. At this very moment…????
